Welcome to the LYL Summer League🏆: The London Youth League is designed to provide a structured, safe, and enjoyable environment for all players, with rules adapted to suit each age group’s stage of development. Please ensure you read this and we hope to see clubs and parents for another successful summer league! U6 – U8 (5v5 Format) Players in the U6 to U8 age groups will compete in a 5v5 format, designed to maximise touches on the ball and encourage confidence in possession. Matches restart with dribble-ins or kick-ins, with the ball kept below knee height Pass backs to the goalkeeper are allowed Headers are not penalised, but safety is monitored Focus is placed on skill development, enjoyment, and equal participation U9 – U11 (7v7 Format) & U12 (9v9 Format) Players in the U9 to U11 age groups will play 7v7 and U12 will play 9V9 introducing more structure while still supporting development. Same restart rules: Throw Ins No pass backs to the goalkeeper (indirect free kick if violated) No retreat line – normal defensive pressure applies Headers are not penalised, with referee discretion for safety Discipline rules remain consistent across all age groups: Any Reckless challenges or Misconduct that Referee's see will follow this procedure: 1st offence: Final Warning 2nd offence: 5-minute sin bin 3rd offence: Miss Remainder of the Half MATCH ENVIRONMENT Across all age groups: Rolling substitutions are allowed Coaches and spectators must promote positive behaviour and respect Referees have full authority on all decisions FORMAT NOTES Teams must arrive at least 30 minutes before their scheduled time Fixtures will run on time to ensure smooth rotation Players should be ready pitch-side before kick-off Respect for officials, opponents, and organisers is mandatory at all timesatory at all times
